World Breast-feeding week observed

Warangal, August 9 : Mother’s milk is the complete source of nutrition for a baby and is the best medicine a mother can give to her baby. It is important to breast feed the baby until seven months of age after delivering the baby, said the District Project Officer of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), K.Madhurima here in Warangal district. On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week, the district project officer of the ICDS K.Madhurima along with the Anganwadi teachers conducted an awareness campaign on the importance of Breastfeeding here in various divisions following Covid-19 rules by maintaining physical distance here in the Hanamkonda of Warangal urban district. Speaking on the occasion, K.Madhurima said that this year the World Breastfeeding Week calls is observed with a slogan “Support Mother’s milk for healthier Planet’ across the world and to create an enabling environment for women to protect, promote and support breastfeeding in all walks of life, at home, in community and at work. She also said that breastfeeding to the baby until seven months of age is considered as a golden stage where an infant receives colostrum (First Milk) in the first week which is rich in nutrients and contains protective factors and also establishes a strong bond between mother and baby.Madhuriamsaid that the child brought up with breastfeeding will not only lead a healthy life but also will be fully protected from various kinds of seasonal diseases since the child will develop immune power against several kinds of diseases. If mother is weak and falls ill for some reason, some section of people who believe superstitions and old beliefs are not feeding the newborn babies with mother’s milk and are giving them alternate foods which is not good for the health of the baby, she said. Even, the World Health Organisation has said that a child can be fed with the mother’s milk by taking all kinds of precautions following the hygienic methods with the support of the family members, if the mother is suffering from any kind of illness during this Corona period, as the virus cannot be found in the mother’s milk, she pointed out. K.Madhurima also explained to the pregnant women and their family members that breast milk contains the perfect blend of vitamins, proteins, fats, antibodies and growth factors needed by baby in the first seven months of life and is an uncontaminated nutritional source and urged them to breastfeed after delivering the babies.
