BJP MP Locket Chatterjee posing stiff fight against sitting TMC MLA from Chunchura Assy constituency

West Bengal 22 March,  (TSIT) Lok Sabha MP Locket Chatterjee and two-time ruling Trinamool
Congress (TMC) MLA Asit Mazumder (Tapan), who is also the vice-chairman of the
South Bengal State Transport Corporation, are pitted against each other from the
Chunchura assembly constituency in Hooghly  district. In the previous two elections, this
constituency was won by the Trinamool Congress. In 2016, Asit Mazumder (Tapan) of TMC won the seat by defeating Dr Pranab Kumar Ghosh from All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) with a margin of 29684 votes.
In 2011, Mr Mazumder defeated his nearest rival Narendranath Dey of AIFB with a margin of
44592 votes. Chunchura Assembly constituency is falling under the Hooghly Lok Sabha constituency. In the
2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate (BJP) Locket Chatterjee won from
Hooghly Lok Sabha (MP) Seat with the margin of 73362 votes by defeating Dr Ratna De (nag)
from All India Trinamool Congress. After nominated by the saffron party from the Chunchura assembly seat, Actor-turned-politicianMs Chatterjee said, women of Bengal are looking at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the‘Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal)’ where women will get their due respect.”Ms Chatterjee said her party will not allow anyone to make Bengal into ‘East Pakistan’.”Is ‘Jai Shri Ram’ a slang? Mamata Government insults Ram and Sita. Bengal Governmentpractises appeasement politics. They practice politics of 30 per cent (indirectly referring tominorities). We will not allow making Bengal into East Pakistan,” she said.Criticising the TMC’s campaign “Bangla nijer meye kei chai (Bengal wants its own daughter)”,Chatterjee said, “Incidents of rape, molestation and acid attacks, women trafficking are high inBengal and the state doesn’t provide the requisite data. We seek respect. The data shows Bengal
could not give respect to women and now they are seeking votes in the name of daughters.”Ms Chatterjee alleged that Trinamool Congress (TMC) had stolen the ration provided by theCentre during the pandemic.
“TMC has stolen rice during the lockdown, tents during the Amphan cyclone and even COVIDvaccines,” she said.
Ms Chatterjee forayed into the political realm as a member of TMC. She severed ties with TMC BJP MP Locket Chatterjee posing stiff fight against sitting TMC MLA from Chunchura Assy constituency
and joined BJP in 2015. She contested the 2016 assembly elections from Mayureshwar in West Bengal but lost to Abhijit Roy of TMC. Born on December 4, 1973, in Calcutta, Ms Chatterjee is an actress, known for Kiriti Roy (2016), Gogoler Kirti (2014), Mahapurush O Kapurush (2013), Oh Henry ( 2013) Chora Bali (2012) ‘Hothat Ekdin’ (On a sudden day). Ms Chatterjee is also a classical dancer. She completed her training in Bharat Natyam, Kathakali, Manipuri and Creative but is better known as an actress. Previously, she was the state president of BJP Mahila Morcha, the women’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal. Now she is a state General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party. With the two parties racing against time to reach out to the voters, the TMC, which has adopted the poll slogan ‘Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chay’ (Bengal wants her own daughter) sees itself having an edge over the saffron camp when it comes to wooing women, with schemes such as ‘Swasthya
Sathi’ and ‘Kanyashree’ at the heart of its campaign. The saffron camp, on its part, has been pulling all stops to highlight the apparent rise in crime against women over the last 10 years under the TMC rule.
