Srisailam, April 10: Ugadi celebrations commenced amid devotional fervor at Srisailam Mallikarjuna Swamy temple here on Saturday. The festivities are held for five days and the Mahotsavams begin three days before the day of Ugadi. The Mahotsavams marking the commencement of the Telugu New Year was started in a traditional way and will continue till April 14. As part of the Mahotsavams, the initial programmes have been under way in accordance with the ‘agamasastra’. Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy made his entry to ‘yagashala’ amidst chanting of four Vedas by the archakas, veda pundits, officials in the presence of the Executive Officer. After the entry of the Swamy into the ‘yagashala’, sankalpa called ‘Shiva Sankalpa’ was made by the Sthanacharya, wishing the people a healthy, wealthy life and the world devoid of natural calamities. All the programmes undertaken as part of Mahotsavam were held following COVID norms.
