Kolkata, Dec 15: Films are the binding connection between the cultures of the world, stated West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Inaugurating the 28th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) at the Netaji Indoor Stadium here along with megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Thursday in the presence of several film personalities, including superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Banerjee said, “Films are the binding connection between the cultures of the world. And today’s event was a reminder of that.” “I am certain that after today’s event, more and more youth will be inspired to create great works of art and cinema,” she said. The chief minister said, “Bengal, which is home to some of the most renowned artists in the world, is dedicated to fostering fresh and emerging talent for the world to witness for as long as its soil lives on.” She said, “Bengal will live on with its legendary history and continue to march towards a glorious tomorrow with its head held high.” Banerjee said, ”It was a gratifying experience to spend the evening with some of the country’s most accomplished and talented artists.” “Firstly, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. C.V. Anand Bose, His Excellency the Governor of West Bengal, esteemed Amit ji and Jaya ji, and the Guest of Honor and my dearest brother Shah Rukh Khan,” she said. “In addition to the other eminent dignitaries, Mahesh Bhatt and Shatrughan Sinha and distinguished guests, Rani Mukherjee, Kumar Sanu, and beloved Arijit Singh, I’d like to express my earnest gratitude to the evening’s Special Guest, Sourav Ganguly,” the chief minister said. “I would also like to convey my heartfelt congratulations to our cherished Dona Ganguly for her graceful dance performance,” she added.
