Congress attacks Centre over farmers’ issue

Date:

New Delhi, Jan 4: The Congress on Wednesday launched a fresh attack at the BJP-led government at the Centre over doubling of farmers’ income by 2022, and claimed that because of the policies of the ruling dispensation their income has come down.
“In February 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to double farmers income by 2022. The income of the farmers have come down because of the policies of the government,” Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge wrote in a tweet. Kharge also claimed that during the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, the income of farmers increased by 7.5 per cent every year.
Last week, chairman of All India Kisan Congress (AIKC) Sukhpal Singh Khaira had claimed that the UPA government between 2004 and 2014 had more than doubled the farmers income. “The government of India constituted a Doubling of Farmers’ Income Committee (DFIC) in 2016 which had submitted its report in 2018. The report is still gathering dust in the corridors of power”, he had said.
