Mercedes Benz has made a strategic move in the Indian luxury car market by introducing the locally assembled Maybach GLS, significantly lowering its price compared to the imported version. The decision aims to make the ultra luxury SUV more accessible to buyers while ensuring quicker delivery timelines.

The locally assembled Maybach GLS is priced at Rs 2.75 crore, a substantial drop from the earlier fully imported model that cost Rs 3.17 crore. This price reduction of nearly Rs 42 lakh comes primarily due to savings on import duties. Alongside the standard model, Mercedes Benz has also introduced a special Maybach GLS Celebration Edition priced at Rs 4.10 crore.

From the outside, the Maybach GLS retains its unmistakable luxury identity. A bold chrome dominated grille, LED projector headlamps with daytime running lights, multiple Maybach logos, and large 23 inch alloy wheels give the SUV a commanding road presence. The rear design features sleek LED tail lamps and dual exhaust outlets that enhance its premium look.

Inside, the cabin focuses on comfort and technology. Dual 12.3 inch digital displays, a premium three spoke steering wheel, and high quality leather upholstery dominate the interior. The five seat layout offers generous space, adjustable headrests, and armrests for both front and rear passengers.

Rear seat comfort is a major highlight of the Maybach GLS. Passengers get twin 11.6 inch entertainment screens, wireless phone charging, panoramic sunroof, powered sun blinds, four zone climate control, and a 29 speaker Burmester sound system. The SUV also includes a refrigerated compartment, ventilated power seats, and advanced driver assistance systems with a 360 degree camera.

Powering the locally assembled Maybach GLS is a 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 petrol engine producing 557 hp, supported by a 48V mild hybrid system adding 22 hp. Paired with a 9 speed automatic transmission and all wheel drive, the SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.9 seconds and offers a top speed of 250 kmph.
