Rajasthan: In an unusual development, two life term prisoners lodged in a Rajasthan jail have been granted temporary parole to get married. The decision follows directions from the Rajasthan High Court and has drawn wide attention.

The couple, currently serving sentences in Jaipur jail, reportedly developed a relationship while undergoing punishment at an open jail facility in Sanganer. Their bond eventually led them to seek legal permission to formalize their relationship through marriage.

Based on their application, the district parole advisory committee reviewed the case and approved a fifteen day parole. Jail authorities confirmed that all procedural requirements were met before allowing the temporary release.

The woman prisoner, also known by an alternate name, is serving a life sentence in a murder case. The male inmate is also convicted in a separate murder case and is undergoing life imprisonment. Despite their criminal pasts, officials said the parole was granted strictly under existing legal provisions.

The Rajasthan High Court issued the parole order earlier this month, paving the way for the marriage. Authorities clarified that the permission does not alter the sentence and both prisoners must return to jail after the parole period ends.

The case has sparked debate around prisoner rights and rehabilitation, with officials maintaining that the decision was taken purely on legal grounds and in line with established rules.
