According to senior leaders, Sunetra Pawar is likely to handle key portfolios including excise and sports. The move is seen as a strategic step by the NCP to consolidate its position ahead of the Pune Zilla Parishad elections scheduled on February 7. Sunetra Pawar, born on October 18 1963 in Dharashiv district, has steadily built her political profile over the years. Married to Ajit Pawar since 1985, she is the mother of Parth Pawar and Jay Pawar. Currently serving as a Rajya Sabha MP from the NCP, she remains a key voice within the party despite her defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Baramati.

Her elevation now signals both continuity and renewal. At a time when Maharashtra politics is undergoing rapid realignment, Sunetra Pawar stepping into executive leadership is being viewed as a move aimed at stability, emotional reassurance and future strategy.
