Union Budget 2026 Delivers Major Boost for Women With New Welfare and Enterprise Schemes

Union Budget 2026 has placed women at the centre of several major policy announcements, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman outlining new schemes focused on safety education entrepreneurship and skill development. The initiatives are designed to support women from rural and urban backgrounds while expanding opportunities across sectors.
One of the key announcements is the establishment of She Marts across the country for women self help groups. These community managed retail outlets will help women entrepreneurs access credit linked products and modern financial tools enabling them to scale businesses and improve market reach.
Education and safety received equal attention with the announcement of one girls hostel in every district. The move is expected to benefit students from economically weaker families by improving access to safe accommodation and encouraging continued education especially in underserved regions.
The budget also proposed setting up content creator labs in schools and colleges to equip students with modern digital skills. These labs will be introduced in fifteen hundred schools and five hundred colleges located near university townships. Training will focus on animation visual effects gaming and comics creating new career pathways for young women.
Beyond women specific schemes the budget announced broader development initiatives. Financial commission grants worth one point four lakh crore rupees will be provided to states covering rural and urban local bodies and disaster management support. The government also plans to develop fifteen heritage sites into vibrant cultural destinations.
To promote employment and tourism the Khelo India Mission was announced along with training for ten thousand tourist guides. The budget also proposed rationalising tax collected at source on foreign tour packages reducing the burden on travellers.
