Girls Hostels in Every District, Creator Labs in Schools and Colleges Get Budget Push

The Union Budget 2026 27 outlines a major education focused roadmap with girls hostels in every district content creator labs nationwide and new university townships linked to jobs and skills.

The Union Budget 2026 27 has placed education and access at the centre of its development strategy with a nationwide plan to build a girls hostel in every district. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the move is aimed at improving safety inclusion and higher education participation for young women across the country.

A significant push has also been announced for digital and creative skills. The budget proposes content creator labs in 15 thousand schools and 500 colleges to help students gain hands on exposure to media storytelling and emerging digital platforms. The initiative is expected to bridge classroom learning with modern career opportunities.

Reordering priorities within the education sector the government has allocated Rs 1.39 lakh crore for education in 2026 27. Out of this Rs 55,727 crore has been earmarked for higher education reflecting a clear focus on universities colleges and skill based institutions.

The budget also introduces support for five university townships to be developed near major industrial and logistics corridors. These townships will integrate universities colleges research centres skill hubs and residential facilities creating ecosystems aligned with employment and industry needs.

To strengthen specialised education veterinary colleges hospitals and diagnostic laboratories will receive access to subsidised loans. In addition a high level standing committee on education to employment and enterprise has been proposed to guide reforms in the service sector and workforce readiness.

Welcoming the announcements Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan described the budget as a blueprint for a developed India. He said the focus on future ready skills infrastructure and regional institutions including a proposed National Institute of Design in the eastern region marks a decisive step toward education led growth.

Overall the education measures signal a shift toward inclusive access skill driven learning and stronger links between education and employment positioning the sector as a foundation for long term national development.
