India has taken another decisive step in strengthening its missile programme with the successful testing of advanced ramjet technology. The trial marks significant progress in enhancing long range air to air missile systems and overall defence preparedness.

The test was conducted by Defence Research and Development Organisation at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha. Scientists confirmed that the Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet technology performed as expected during the morning trial, meeting all critical mission parameters.

Ramjet technology is a form of air breathing jet propulsion that uses the missile’s forward speed to compress incoming air, eliminating the need for rotating engine parts. This allows missiles to sustain high speeds over longer distances, offering greater range and precision compared to conventional systems.

According to officials, key subsystems including the nozzle less booster, the solid fuel ducted ramjet motor and the fuel flow controller were tested during the mission and delivered satisfactory results. With this success, India has joined a small group of nations that possess and demonstrate this sophisticated propulsion capability.

The achievement is expected to play a crucial role in future missile development programmes and further strengthen India’s strategic defence technologies.
