Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar was admitted to a private hospital in Pune on Monday after experiencing cough and breathing discomfort, prompting doctors to carry out detailed medical examinations.

The veteran leader was brought to Ruby Hall Clinic from his Baramati residence during the afternoon. Hospital authorities confirmed that a CT scan revealed signs of a chest infection, following which further tests were initiated to assess his condition.

Doctors said Pawar may be kept under observation for a day, depending on the outcome of ongoing medical evaluations. A team of specialists is closely monitoring his health, and treatment decisions will be taken after reviewing all reports.

Pawar arrived at the hospital accompanied by his daughter and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule along with her husband. Hospital sources said he was alert on arrival and walked briefly before being assisted into a wheelchair as a precaution.

Party leaders described the hospitalisation as a preventive step, stating that Pawar had been dealing with throat irritation and chest congestion for the past few days. They added there was no immediate cause for concern.

Supporters gathered outside the hospital after news of his admission spread, while party officials assured that regular updates on his health would be shared once doctors complete their assessment.
