Egg Expiry Date Rule Introduced in Uttar Pradesh Raises Food Safety Awareness
Consumers urged to check egg expiry date before purchase as Uttar Pradesh government enforces new rule from April 1 ensuring better food safety and preventing health risks from spoiled eggs.

- Egg expiry date rule becomes mandatory for all sellers.
- Uttar Pradesh enforces strict egg expiry date checks.
- Consumers must verify egg expiry date before buying.
The way people buy and consume eggs is set to change with a new regulation coming into effect in Uttar Pradesh. The state government has decided to make it compulsory to print expiry details on eggs, aiming to improve food safety and consumer awareness.
From April 1, every egg sold in the market will need to carry clear information about when it was laid and the last date it is safe for consumption. This rule will apply across the board, from small village shops to large supermarkets, leaving no room for exceptions.
For many regular egg consumers, this update may come as a surprise. Until now, expiry dates were common on packaged goods, but rarely associated with fresh items like eggs. With this change, buyers will now need to pay closer attention before making a purchase.
Officials have stressed that consumers should not assume all eggs available in stores are fresh. Instead, checking the expiry date will become an essential step to avoid potential health issues caused by consuming stale eggs.
Experts say that eggs generally remain safe for up to 14 days under normal conditions. When stored at lower temperatures, their shelf life can extend up to three weeks. Beyond this period, consuming them is not recommended due to possible health risks.
The government believes this move will bring transparency to the market and encourage better storage and handling practices among sellers. As the rule rolls out, consumers are advised to stay alert and make informed choices while buying eggs.
