Political tensions in Assam intensified after Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress party of maintaining links with Pakistan, raising concerns over national security during an election rally in the state. His remarks have added a sharp edge to the ongoing political campaign.

Addressing the gathering, Modi said that the opposition party has repeatedly taken positions that, according to him, align with Pakistan’s narrative. He alleged that such actions are not new and claimed that the country has paid a heavy price in the past due to this approach.

The controversy deepened after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also made strong statements, alleging that certain press conferences by Congress leaders were influenced by information sourced from Pakistani social media platforms. He further claimed that Pakistan based media channels aired multiple discussions related to Assam elections, which he described as an unusual development.

According to Sarma, several talk shows on Pakistani channels reportedly ended with remarks favoring Congress, raising suspicions of external influence in the state’s electoral process. He described this as a serious concern at a time when elections are approaching.

Meanwhile, the Congress party hit back with allegations against the Assam Chief Minister’s family, claiming that assets were not fully disclosed and raising questions over passport related issues. The accusations added another layer of political confrontation between the ruling party and the opposition.

Responding to these claims, Sarma dismissed them as baseless and politically motivated. He stated that legal action has been initiated against what he described as false allegations and maintained that investigations into the matter are already underway.

As the political battle intensifies, both sides continue to exchange sharp accusations, turning the Assam election campaign into a high stakes contest marked by national security concerns and personal allegations.
