Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced that a record 70 TMC of water has been supplied to Anantapur district this year, marking a major milestone in addressing long standing irrigation challenges in the region. He said the achievement reflects the government’s commitment to supporting farmers in drought prone Rayalaseema.

Speaking during his visit to Yadiki in Anantapur district, the Chief Minister highlighted that for the first time, water from the Godavari and Krishna rivers has been effectively linked and diverted to benefit the region. He noted that this integration has enabled water flow through projects like Handri Neeva, bringing much needed relief to agricultural lands.

Chandrababu assured that the Polavaram project, considered crucial for the state’s irrigation future, will be completed before the next Pushkaralu in 2027. He expressed confidence that once completed, the project will offer a permanent solution to irrigation issues across Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing farmers and irrigation associations, he emphasized the importance of responsible water usage. He urged stakeholders to conserve every drop to ensure sustainable agriculture and transform the region into a strong horticulture hub.

The Chief Minister also outlined the overall water requirements of the state, stating that Andhra Pradesh needs around 1300 TMC annually, including water for agriculture, drinking purposes, and industries. He added that the state has already achieved a leading position in horticulture at the national level.

Highlighting the transformation of Anantapur, he said that a region once struggling for every drop of water is now witnessing improved irrigation due to coordinated efforts and river linking initiatives. The government aims to further strengthen these efforts to ensure long term agricultural stability and growth.
