The Andhra Pradesh government has taken strict disciplinary action against 51 government doctors who were found to be absent from their duties for long periods without official permission.
State Medical and Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced that the doctors were permanently removed from service after authorities confirmed their prolonged unauthorized absence from government hospitals.
The action was taken against medical staff working under the Directorate of Medical Education across various government teaching hospitals in the state. According to officials, the dismissed group includes eight associate professors, 41 assistant professors and two tutors.
Government authorities stated that some of the doctors had reportedly stayed away from work for nearly six to seven years while allegedly engaging in private activities during that period.
Officials explained that notices were issued to the doctors under the Andhra Pradesh Civil Services Conduct Rules of 1964 asking them to explain their absence. However, several of them reportedly failed to respond even after repeated communication from the government.
The Health Department said the decision was aimed at improving accountability and ensuring better healthcare services for patients in government hospitals.
Along with the dismissals, the government also issued charge memos to another 33 doctors who were found absent for shorter periods within the past year. Minister Satya Kumar stated that 11 among them have already returned to duty.
He warned that the remaining doctors would also face removal from service if they fail to report back within the specified deadline.
The minister emphasized that the government would not tolerate negligence or irresponsible behavior in public healthcare services and said strict action would continue against employees failing to perform their duties properly.
The move is being seen as one of the strongest administrative actions taken recently by the Andhra Pradesh government against absenteeism in the medical sector.
