A renewed political demand has emerged from Tamil Nadu calling for the nation’s highest civilian honour to be conferred on former chief minister Jayalalithaa. The appeal was raised in Parliament, drawing attention to her long standing influence on governance and welfare policy.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, an AIADMK member Dhanaphal described Jayalalithaa as a leader who combined administrative strength with political courage. He said her contribution went far beyond electoral success and reshaped how welfare reached ordinary households.

The MP recalled that Jayalalithaa introduced several people centric schemes that directly supported low income families and students. Initiatives such as Amma Canteens, Amma Pharmacies, free laptops for students, bicycles, grinders, and mixies were cited as programs that became part of everyday life in Tamil Nadu.

Calling her the true face of welfare driven governance, the MP said honoring Jayalalithaa with the Bharat Ratna would be a fitting national tribute to her legacy. He stressed that her policies created lasting social change and continue to benefit millions even years after her passing.

The demand adds to similar appeals made earlier by party leaders, keeping alive the political and public debate around national recognition for one of Tamil Nadu’s most influential leaders.
