Air India Cancels 2500 Flights Amid West Asia Conflict and Rising Fuel Costs
Air India has cancelled nearly 2500 flights in the past three weeks as the West Asia conflict disrupts air routes increases fuel prices and forces airlines to reduce operations.

Air India has cancelled nearly 2500 flights over the past three weeks as geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue to disrupt global aviation operations. The airline said the situation has forced it to scale back services significantly.
According to Air India Chief Executive Officer Camp Wilson the ongoing conflict in the region has created major operational challenges. Several air routes have been affected due to security concerns and restrictions on airspace, forcing the airline to suspend a large number of scheduled flights.
The airline has been operating only about thirty percent of its usual capacity during this period. With multiple routes either restricted or considered unsafe for commercial flights the company had to take precautionary measures to protect passenger safety and aircraft operations.
Wilson explained that since the conflict began more than 2500 flights had to be cancelled. These cancellations have not only disrupted travel schedules but have also placed a heavy financial burden on the airline.
Impact of Rising Fuel Prices
Another major challenge for airlines has been the sharp rise in aviation fuel prices. Due to the conflict in West Asia global oil supply has been affected leading to a surge in fuel costs.
Air India officials said the price of aviation fuel has nearly doubled in recent weeks. The increased fuel expenses are expected to place additional financial pressure on the airline starting next month.
Ticket Prices Likely to Increase
To manage the rising operational costs the airline has introduced fuel surcharges on flight tickets. This move is intended to offset part of the additional expenses caused by higher fuel prices.
As a result passengers may notice an increase in ticket prices across several routes. Airlines around the world often implement such surcharges when fuel costs rise sharply.
The ongoing geopolitical crisis has created uncertainty across multiple sectors including aviation energy and global trade. Air India officials say they are closely monitoring the situation and will adjust operations depending on how conditions evolve in the coming weeks.
