Blast At Railway Line In Punjab Disrupts Freight Movement

An explosion damaged railway tracks in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district while a goods train was passing, injuring the loco pilot slightly and triggering an investigation ahead of Republic Day security alerts

Punjab: A late night explosion on a railway track in Punjab caused panic and temporarily disrupted freight train operations on a key route. The incident took place in Fatehgarh Sahib district and involved a goods train travelling on the Amritsar Delhi corridor.

According to officials the blast occurred around 9.50 pm on Friday, shortly after the goods train crossed a level crossing near Sirhind railway station on the Dedicated Freight Corridor. A loud explosion was heard across the surrounding area as the train moved ahead, damaging the tracks beneath.

The impact of the blast left a section of the railway line destroyed and caused damage to the train’s engine. The loco pilot sustained minor injuries and was given immediate medical attention. Freight train movement on the corridor was halted following the incident.

Railway police and senior officials rushed to the spot soon after receiving information. With the incident occurring just days before Republic Day, security agencies treated the matter with high priority and launched a detailed investigation using multiple teams.

Damaged tracks were repaired after inspection, and goods train services on the route were later restored. Authorities have confirmed that inquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion and whether any deliberate act was involved.
