A major political flashpoint has emerged after former cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh switched sides from the Aam Aadmi Party to the Bharatiya Janata Party, along with several other MPs. The development has triggered protests, security concerns, and sharp political reactions across Punjab and beyond.

Soon after the shift, the Punjab government withdrew the security cover earlier provided to Harbhajan Singh and another MP. The decision came amid growing anger within the party ranks, with leaders accusing the defectors of betraying the mandate. Protests quickly followed, particularly outside Harbhajan Singh’s residence in Jalandhar, where party workers raised slogans and expressed their outrage.

Sensing potential threats in the wake of these developments, the Ministry of Home Affairs moved swiftly to ensure protection. Orders were issued to provide security through the Central Reserve Police Force to the MPs who recently joined the BJP. The deployment covers both Punjab and Delhi, reflecting the seriousness of the situation.

At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party is preparing to escalate the matter legally. The party is expected to approach the Rajya Sabha Chairman seeking disqualification of the MPs who defected. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has openly criticized the leaders, calling them traitors and accusing them of abandoning the party for political gain.

The episode highlights rising political tensions and underscores how party defections continue to stir controversy, drawing both administrative action and public reaction in equal measure.
