An intense encounter broke out in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday when Indian security forces engaged terrorists hiding in a forested area. The operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs.
Officials said the gunfight took place in the Majalta region after troops began a search operation based on information about terrorist movement. As security personnel closed in the area the terrorists opened fire in an attempt to escape.
Alert soldiers immediately retaliated leading to a fierce exchange of bullets. In the encounter two Pakistan backed terrorists were shot dead by the Indian Army. The deceased were identified as Jabbar and Mavi according to official sources.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and search operations are continuing to rule out the presence of more terrorists. Authorities said the situation is under control and further details will be shared after the operation concludes.
