A deadly fire tore through a residential building in East Delhi in the early hours of Sunday, leaving at least nine people dead and several others injured. The incident unfolded in Vivek Vihar Phase I, where flames rapidly spread across multiple upper floors of a four storey apartment block.

Emergency services rushed to the scene soon after the alarm was raised at around 3.48 am. Firefighters, along with police and disaster response teams, launched an extensive rescue effort as the blaze intensified inside the building. Thick smoke and flames made access difficult, especially on the second, third and fourth floors where the fire was most severe.

Officials said more than ten residents were pulled out during the operation. Two individuals who suffered minor injuries were taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that multiple fire tenders were deployed and worked for several hours before the flames were finally brought under control.

The identities of those who lost their lives have not yet been confirmed. Investigators are continuing to examine the site to determine how the fire started and whether any safety lapses contributed to the tragedy.

Police and civic authorities remain at the location as further inquiries and formal procedures are carried out.
