Prime Minister Narendra Modi has added another significant milestone to his political career by setting a rare record in Indian politics. On Sunday March twenty two he completed eight thousand nine hundred thirty one days as a head of government combining his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and Prime Minister of India.
With this achievement Modi has surpassed the previous record held by former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling. Chamling had served as the head of a government for eight thousand nine hundred thirty days making it one of the longest tenures in Indian political history. Modi crossing this mark marks a new chapter in the country political landscape.
Journey from Gujarat Chief Minister to Prime Minister
Before becoming the Prime Minister Narendra Modi served for a long period as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. His leadership in the state lasted for more than a decade and played a major role in shaping his national political career.
Modi first assumed office as Gujarat Chief Minister on October seven two thousand one. He continued in the role through successive electoral victories and remained in power until May twenty two two thousand fourteen when he stepped down to take charge as the Prime Minister of India.
