Terror Incidents in India 1050 Attacks Reported in Seven Years Says Central Government

A recent report presented by the central government in Parliament has revealed alarming data about terror incidents in India over the past seven years. According to official figures, the country recorded 1050 terror related incidents between 2017 and 2023.

The details were shared in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai in response to a question raised by Member of Parliament Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar from the Trinamool Congress party. The minister provided the information through a written reply based on official crime statistics.

The report highlights the heavy human cost of these terror incidents. During this period, 243 civilians lost their lives while 599 others were injured in various attacks across the country. The data also reveals the significant sacrifices made by security personnel in the fight against terrorism.

According to the government figures, 288 security personnel were killed while performing their duties during counter terrorism operations and terror related incidents. Another 802 members of the security forces sustained injuries while responding to these threats.

Security agencies have continued to conduct operations to neutralize terrorist networks across the country. As a result of these counter operations, 687 terrorists were killed during encounters and other security actions over the seven year period.

In addition to eliminating terrorists, law enforcement agencies also made significant arrests. The government confirmed that 616 terrorists were arrested during investigations and operations conducted by security forces.

The central government stated that these figures are based on information collected by the National Crime Records Bureau. The agency compiles nationwide crime statistics and publishes them annually in the Crime in India report.

Officials also clarified that the latest available data currently covers information up to the year 2023. The report reflects ongoing security challenges while also highlighting the continuous efforts made by security forces to protect national safety and prevent further terror incidents.
