Karnataka assembly passes resolution on border row with Maharashtra

Date:

Belagavi, Dec 22 : Condemning the border dispute created by Maharashtra, Karnataka assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution to protect the state’s interests.
The resolution moved by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai was adopted by a voice-vote.Bommai said if the feelings of Karnataka’s people and legislators are affected, all of them are committed to unitedly take constitutional and legal steps to protect the state’s interest.
A couple of days back, Bommai had sought cooperation of members of both the houses to pass a resolution with regards to the border row with Maharashtra as per the State Reorganisation Act. He had said this 1956 Act was final and accordingly not an inch of land would be ceded to Maharashtra.
Bommai also called Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut an agent of China and a traitor, in retaliation over his “China-like entry” remarks. The Maharashtra leader had said that they will enter Karnataka the way China entered India.“I will call him a China agent. Sanjay Raut is an agent of China. He is a traitor. Sanjay Raut is a traitor. Under the Union setup, if somebody wants to attack and make an entry into another state and disturb the unity of the nation, what should such a person be called? Shouldn’t he be called a traitor?” he said.
Bommai said if Raut keeps making such remarks, legal action would be initiated against him and would retaliate like Indian soldiers if he makes a China-like entry.
“Making such cheap comments may be his way, but we don’t care. He does not even have a pai’s value. If he keeps talking like this, we will initiate legal action against him. I have told him that if you come like China then we will retaliate like Indian soldiers,” he said.
