Telangana is moving closer to implementing a major relief initiative for road accident victims, aiming to ensure that emergency medical care is never delayed due to financial concerns. The Health Sri Trust has begun preparations to roll out the central government’s cashless treatment scheme across the state.
Under this programme, individuals injured in road accidents will be eligible for free medical treatment up to Rs 1.50 lakh. The key objective is to provide immediate and quality healthcare during the critical golden hour, when timely treatment can save lives.
One of the most significant features of the scheme is that it applies even to people who do not possess Health Sri or Ayushman Bharat cards. Officials clarified that treatment will begin the moment the victim is admitted to a hospital, without any upfront payment or documentation barriers.
To strengthen emergency response, the government plans to identify government and private hospitals located in accident prone zones and bring them under the scheme’s network. This move is expected to improve access to nearby hospitals and reduce delays in shifting patients during emergencies.
Funding for the initiative will be released from the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund. Authorities noted that similar models have already shown positive results in other states, benefiting thousands of accident victims.
However, officials stressed that for the cashless facility to apply, the accident must be registered in the eDAR system within 24 hours. Only after this mandatory registration will the treatment costs be covered under the scheme.
With this step, Telangana aims to strengthen its emergency healthcare system and ensure that no life is lost due to lack of money during road accidents.
