Learning for work and lifelong learning

Date:

(Murali Mohan Rao SKA)

A lot of people pray for power, a house, a financial breakthrough, wealth, etc., but only a few pray for wisdom, the mother of solutions. The interesting fact is that learning is a lifelong process of refining existing expertise and picking up new abilities along the way. It is learning that makes people great — learn more, earn more, know more, and grow more!
There used to be a time when one skill was enough to enter and retire from a profession. Times have changed; continuous learning is the key to staying ahead. Today, an emerging learning economy is changing all that as learning becomes a currency for everything we do. The rise of the learning economy where knowledge is the real currency!
A good workplace supports learning and development. A learning culture is an environment that demonstrates and encourages individual and organizational learning, and where both gaining and sharing knowledge is prioritized, valued, and rewarded. Creating a learning culture involves empowering everyone to take an active role in their development, and promoting and rewarding continuous learning. An effective learning culture at work is the key to business success in this age of accelerated change. Every organization is different, and the path to truly creating a culture of learning that will become a part of the ecosystem will be different as well.
I started my corporate career in a renowned publishing company as a Junior Executive, Secretary to the then Deputy Manager (Sales & Marketing), and the role change within the company over the years has helped me build on my knowledge, seniors were and are all so supportive while being realistic through all my role transitions. I’m presently working in the Human Resources department of the company as a Manager. I strongly believe that continuous learning is the ongoing expansion of knowledge and skill sets. The existing relationships are also one of my biggest considerations. I like the culture and people that I work with!
The idea of schools and colleges as places where you only learn and acquire subject knowledge but do not gain any exposure to workplace discipline has changed. The earn-while-you-learn scheme is a guide to future career plans. If we want a quality education, we must integrate skills into education. Unbounded learning resources are creating opportunities for continuous growth, opening the future to new possibilities and aspirations. Even the community of teachers is looking to explore new opportunities to keep learning because of the ever-changing face of Indian classrooms today.
Training gets the teacher ready for the classroom ecosystem; development is the process through which the teacher adapts to the changing teaching-learning environment. The Professional Development Online Certification courses are in place to provide school teachers with opportunities to up skill themselves, making it easy to pace their engagement and learn on the go. Mr. Brian Herbert, an American author, has said that “The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.”
