Intensive eye screening tests in Mulugu district19413 people tested in 140 camps in seven days

Mulugu: Keeping true to the health principle that ‘Sarvendriyanam Nayanam Pradhanam’, CM KCR has taken up the ‘Kanti Velugu’ program to conduct eye screening tests for all the people of the State. In Mulugu district, people are voluntarily participating in the eye medical camps organized in the villages. 1,70,809 eye screening tests were conducted and 15,277 people were given spectacles in the first ‘Kanti Velugu’ program in 2018. As a part of the 2nd phase of the programme, in the medical camps that started on the 19th of this month, a total of 140 medical camps were conducted in the last seven days by 15 primary health centers across the district with 20 teams and eye screening tests were conducted for 19413 people without any inconvenience. Officials also provided reading glasses on the spot to 3032 needy people in the course of conducting eye screening tests. Proposals have been sent to the officials of the State Medical and Health Department to provide special glasses to another 2241 people who were in need of special glasses. Along with glasses, eye drops were also distributed to the people who were undergoing examinations in the camps, along with medicines for minor eye problems. Mulugu district has a population of 3,30,031 in 174 gram panchayats in all 9 mandals of which 2,08,000 are 18 years of age. Officials have planned to conduct eye screening tests for all of them. If compared to the number of people who have been tested in the eye test camps held so far, 10 percent of the people in Mulugu district have been tested in 7 days. Meanwhile, the District Collector of Mulugu S. Krishna Aditya had been continuously supervising along with the district medical officer and the district level officials of other departments and inspecting the camps and solving the problems faced in the management of the camps from time to time and taking steps to complete them within the stipulated time.

“We have taken all measures to complete eye screening tests in Mulugu district through medical camps as per the pre-planned schedule. Under the supervision of the District Collector, we are conducting the camps without any inconveniences to the people in the medical camps. People suffering from eye problems are provided with reading glasses on the spot and medicines are also provided free of cost. 20 teams have been formed and one additional team has been made available. People should also voluntarily attend camps and conduct eye tests.
