Hyderabad is set to witness a major upgrade in urban mobility with the launch of the Nampally automated parking complex on January twenty five. The facility is expected to bring long awaited relief to commuters struggling with parking congestion in one of the city’s busiest zones.
Developed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the project marks India’s first fully automated multi level parking complex. Located close to Nampally railway station and the Exhibition Grounds, the structure is designed to handle heavy daily traffic.
Built at a cost of one hundred fifty crore rupees, the fifteen floor complex includes three basement levels and seven upper floors dedicated entirely to parking. In total, ten floors have been reserved to accommodate more than one thousand two hundred cars along with designated spaces for two wheelers.
The project has been developed under the Public Private Partnership model by Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited in collaboration with Novum, a firm promoted by technology entrepreneur Harikishen Reddy and Bhavana Reddy. The facility stands on two thousand square yards of HMRL land under a fifty year concession agreement.
Apart from parking, five floors have been allocated for commercial activities to ensure financial sustainability. The complex also features two modern cinema theatres and a city viewing gallery located on the eleventh floor.
A major highlight of the facility is its advanced automated puzzle parking system that operates entirely through sensors without human involvement. Vehicles are automatically identified and categorised based on size including SUVs sedans and compact cars before being parked in assigned slots.
Unlike conventional mechanical systems used in other cities, this technology functions without pallets, ensuring smoother movement and faster operations. The parking process has been designed to be simple and user friendly.
At the entry point, users receive a smart card with a QR code that guides them through the process. After swiping the card, vehicles are placed on a flat turntable that can rotate three hundred sixty degrees, allowing convenient access for elderly users women and differently abled individuals.
Once the driver exits, the system scans the vehicle and parks it automatically. For retrieval, users complete payment and swipe the same card at the terminal, following which the car is delivered back from the parking platform.
The complex is also equipped with AI based surveillance solar power systems and electric vehicle charging stations. Officials believe the project will significantly reduce roadside parking and improve traffic flow in the Nampally area.
