Chicken Prices Surge Across Telugu States Amid Supply Shortage

Chicken prices have climbed significantly across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, creating concern among regular consumers. What was priced at around Rs 330 per kilogram just a day ago has now jumped to nearly Rs 400, marking a steep increase in a short span.
Traders attribute this sharp rise to a mismatch between demand and supply. With the ongoing Ramadan season, consumption of chicken has increased notably, putting additional pressure on already limited market stocks. Vendors say the surge in demand has been immediate and widespread across major cities.
Adding to the situation is the intense summer heat, which has severely impacted poultry farms. High temperatures are reportedly causing a rise in poultry deaths, reducing the number of chickens reaching the market. This has further tightened supply, driving prices upward.
In Vijayawada, skinless chicken is currently being sold between Rs 380 and Rs 400 per kilogram, while in Hyderabad, prices range from Rs 340 to Rs 350. Consumers fear that if this trend continues, chicken prices may soon rival the cost of mutton, making it less affordable for many households.
Market observers say the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether prices stabilize or continue their upward trend, depending largely on weather conditions and supply recovery.
