Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has proposed strict regulations to prohibit political activities near temple premises, stressing the need to protect the spiritual atmosphere of religious sites across the state. He stated that meetings protests and political displays should not be allowed in and around temples.
The proposal came during a review meeting on the development of the Basara Gnana Saraswati temple in Nirmal district. The Chief Minister held discussions with Endowments Minister Konda Surekha and senior officials while examining the master plan for the project.
Revanth Reddy emphasized that rules similar to those followed at Tirumala should be implemented in Telangana temples to ensure discipline and maintain sanctity. He made it clear that temple surroundings must remain free from political influence.
The government is planning to undertake the Basara temple development with an estimated cost of Rs 225 crore. The Chief Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the works on April 6. He directed that all construction activities should strictly follow traditional shastra guidelines without affecting the religious significance of the temple.
To accommodate the growing number of devotees, officials have been instructed to design wider roads and better access routes around the temple. The Chief Minister also suggested allowing only electric vehicles within the temple premises to promote an eco friendly environment.
In addition to infrastructure upgrades, the government plans to enhance pilgrim facilities. A dedicated health centre will be established near the temple to handle medical emergencies during festivals and large gatherings. The facility will be equipped with sufficient doctors and staff.
Revanth Reddy also recommended installing solar rooftop systems in parking areas as part of sustainable development efforts. He reiterated that while modern amenities are necessary, the sanctity and traditional values of the temple must remain intact.
The initiative reflects the government’s broader approach to balancing development with preservation of cultural and spiritual heritage in Telangana.
