India’s young cricket talent is set to receive another major platform with the Board of Control for Cricket in India announcing the India A squad for the upcoming one day tri series in Sri Lanka next month.

Telugu cricketer and Team India batter Tilak Varma has been appointed captain of the India A side, while Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag will serve as vice captain. The tournament will feature India A, Sri Lanka A, and Afghanistan A.

One of the biggest talking points in the squad announcement is the inclusion of fifteen year old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The youngster impressed cricket followers with his performances in IPL 2026 and is now being viewed as one of the brightest upcoming talents in Indian cricket.

Selectors have also rewarded several emerging performers from domestic cricket and the IPL. Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya secured places in the squad after attracting attention with their batting displays.

Along with Prabhsimran, Kumar Kushagra has been selected as wicketkeeper batter for the tour. Young fast bowlers including Anshul Kamboj, Yash Thakur, Yudhvir Singh Charak, and Arshad Khan have also been included in the squad.

The all rounder department features promising names such as Harsh Dubey, Vipraj Nigam, Nishant Sindhu, Ayush Badoni, and Suryansh Shedge. Cricket experts believe the team has a balanced combination of experienced young players and rising stars.

The BCCI reportedly sees this series as an important opportunity to expose young Indian players to international level competition and prepare them for higher responsibilities in the future.

The tri series will be played in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. India A will begin its campaign against Sri Lanka A on June 9 before facing Afghanistan A on June 11. The team will again meet Sri Lanka A on June 15 and Afghanistan A on June 17. The final is scheduled for June 21.

After the completion of the tri series, India A will also play two red ball matches against Sri Lanka A. The squad for the longer format series is expected to be announced later by the BCCI.
