The famous fish prasadam distribution for asthma patients will be held on June 8 at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds in Hyderabad. The Bathini family, which has been continuing this traditional practice for nearly 179 years, is preparing for the large gathering expected from Telangana and several other states.
State ministers and senior officials recently conducted a review meeting to assess arrangements for the event. Authorities were instructed to ensure proper facilities for visitors and prevent any untoward incidents during the programme, which attracts thousands of asthma patients every year.
The distribution is organised during the Mrigasira Karthi period and will begin at 11 am on June 8. Officials said the programme will continue for 24 hours to manage the heavy rush of people arriving from different regions seeking the traditional remedy.
Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials from multiple departments to work in coordination for smooth management of the event. He stressed the need for proper crowd control, transport arrangements, medical assistance and sanitation facilities at the venue.
A detailed review meeting was held at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds with ministers Vakiti Srihari and Mohammed Azharuddin along with Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav, Fisheries Corporation Chairman Mettu Sai Kumar, Hyderabad District Collector Dr Priyanka Ala and several department officials. Members of the Bathini family also attended the discussions regarding preparations.
Officials expect a massive turnout this year as many asthma patients continue to visit Hyderabad annually with hopes of relief through the traditional fish prasadam distribution programme.
