Fresh concerns have emerged regarding food quality and safety standards at one of Hyderabad’s well known shopping destinations after food safety officials carried out surprise inspections at Lulu Hypermarket in the KPHB area.

The inspection was initiated after a social media video recently gained widespread attention, with claims that an unusual object was found inside a packaged food product purchased from the mall. Following complaints and growing public discussion, officials conducted a detailed examination of different sections inside the facility.

During the inspection, authorities reportedly identified poor hygiene conditions in the in house kitchen area. Officials observed insects and pests around storage spaces and food preparation surroundings. They also found vegetables kept for cooking that had spoiled and ordered immediate disposal of the affected stock.

Inspectors further noticed issues in the retail section, where some flour products and food grains showed signs of infestation. Authorities also found concerns related to product labeling and observed certain packaged products with irregular information and compliance issues.

The buffet section also came under scrutiny during the inspection. Officials raised concerns over sanitation conditions and noted that waste accumulation could create risks to public health if not addressed properly.

As part of the action taken during the inspection, around 150 kilograms of food items including sweets, flour products, oils and other materials were reportedly discarded. Food samples were also collected and sent for laboratory testing to verify quality standards and determine whether any violations had occurred.

Authorities advised consumers to remain alert while purchasing food products from retail stores, supermarkets, bakeries and food outlets and encouraged people to carefully check product quality before purchase.
