Doctors Warn Pregnant Women To Stay Extra Careful During Rising Heatwave Conditions

Health experts advise pregnant women to stay hydrated avoid direct sunlight and follow summer safety measures carefully as intense heatwaves may affect both mother and baby health seriously.

As temperatures continue to rise across several regions, health experts are urging pregnant women to take extra precautions during the ongoing heatwave season. Doctors say excessive heat can place additional stress on the body during pregnancy and may increase health risks for both the mother and the unborn child if proper care is not taken.

Medical professionals explain that pregnant women naturally experience higher body temperatures because of increased blood circulation and faster heart activity. During extreme summer conditions, the body finds it harder to cool down efficiently, making expectant mothers more vulnerable to dehydration, exhaustion and even heatstroke in severe situations.

Experts recommend staying indoors during the hottest hours of the day, especially after noon when temperatures peak. If going outside becomes necessary, wearing loose cotton clothing and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can help reduce discomfort and overheating. Doctors also advise against physically exhausting activities that may lead to excessive sweating.

Hydration remains one of the most important factors during pregnancy in summer. Instead of consuming multiple cups of tea or coffee, pregnant women are encouraged to drink more water, coconut water and fresh fruit juices throughout the day. Seasonal fruits such as watermelon, oranges and cucumber are considered especially beneficial because they help maintain hydration levels while also providing nutrients important for maternal and fetal health.

Nutrition experts also suggest including salads and water rich foods in daily meals. At the same time, spicy foods and carbonated soft drinks should be limited, as they may increase body heat and digestive discomfort. Very cold water is also not recommended in excess, as sudden temperature changes can affect overall comfort and health.

Doctors say maintaining personal hygiene and body temperature is equally important during extreme heat. Taking lukewarm showers twice a day can help the body stay cool and refreshed. Some specialists also recommend gently wiping the body with a damp cloth whenever excessive sweating occurs to prevent irritation and discomfort.

Light physical activity is still considered important during pregnancy, even in summer. Health experts advise short walks of around ten minutes in the morning or evening when temperatures are lower. Staying active in moderation can support blood circulation and overall well being without putting too much strain on the body.

Medical professionals further warn that symptoms such as severe headaches, dizziness, rapid heartbeat or reduced baby movements should never be ignored. Pregnant women experiencing any unusual discomfort are advised to contact a doctor immediately instead of relying only on home remedies or internet advice.

With heatwave conditions expected to continue in many places, doctors stress that timely precautions and a balanced daily routine can make a significant difference in protecting both mother and child during pregnancy.
