With the arrival of summer, mangoes have started flooding markets, drawing excitement among fruit lovers. However, alongside this seasonal delight, authorities have raised serious concerns over the growing presence of chemically ripened mangoes being sold to consumers.

Hyderabad CP Sajjanar has issued a strong warning to the public, urging them to stay alert while purchasing mangoes. He pointed out that some traders are using harmful chemicals such as calcium carbide to artificially ripen fruits in a short time to increase profits.

According to him, mangoes that appear bright and uniformly golden on the outside may not always be safe. In many cases, these fruits are artificially treated and remain unripe inside, making them harmful for consumption.

Health experts have also cautioned that consuming such chemically ripened mangoes can lead to throat irritation, nausea, vomiting, and digestive issues. In the long term, these substances may even affect the nervous system and cause respiratory problems.

Sajjanar emphasized that naturally ripened mangoes usually do not have a uniform color and tend to ripen gradually. He advised people to avoid fruits that have an unnatural shine, strong chemical smell, or unusual taste.

The police department has stepped up monitoring through dedicated teams to identify and act against those selling adulterated fruits. Strict action will be taken against violators under the law.

He also encouraged citizens to play an active role by reporting suspicious activities. People can inform authorities by dialing 100 or contacting the designated helpline number to ensure quick action.

As mango season continues, officials are urging the public not to be misled by appearance and to prioritize health by choosing naturally ripened fruits.
