Guwahati, Sep 9: In an exceptional move, the outreach programme of the Indian Army facilitated 25 students of Assam in getting jobs at various renowned hotels across the country, Defence officials said on Thursday.
Defence Spokesman Lt. Col. A.S. Walia said that earlier in February this year, the Indian Army organised an outreach programme for registration of youth for Hotel Management Courses under Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) in which many students attended the event at Tamulpur. He said that 25 selected students were enrolled, sponsored by ASRLM and further trained by Pragati Edu Tech at Silchar initially and subsequently shifted to Guwahati after the floods this year.
After completion of the course in the first week of September, all the 25 students have been placed at renowned hotels across the country including Hyatt, Oberoi, IBIS and many others with a good salary, Lt. Col. Walia said.
The Defence spokesman said that outreach initiatives of the Indian Army has created awareness among the students from remote villages of Assam to get employment options nationwide. The gesture of facilitating opportunities and continued monitoring throughout the course was appreciated by the students and parents.
The Indian Army has also conducted various outreach programmes in Assam including Skill Development Mela, training for Agniveer recruitment and entries into the National Defence Academy, Indian Military Academy and Officers Training Academy
