Big relief to Teesta Setalvad, Supreme Court granted interim bail, will have to surrender passport

New Delhi, Sep 3:The Supreme Court on Friday heard the bail application of Teesta Setalvad. During this, the court, giving great relief to the activists, granted them interim bail. A bench of Supreme Court Chief Justice UU Lalit, Justice S Ravindra Bhat and Justice Sudhanshu Bhat heard Teesta’s bail application. Teesta Setalvad was arrested for allegedly fabricating evidence to implicate people in the 2002 Gujarat riots. During the hearing of the bail application filed by Teesta Setalvad, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to the social worker. He also said that he would have to surrender his passport. Teesta will not be able to go abroad until she gets regular bail. The court directed Setalvad to deposit his passport with the trial court till the Gujarat High Court decides on the regular bail application.

The social worker will have to give his cooperate to the investigating agencies in this matter. The Supreme Court said that they are not ordering Teesta’s release on bail, but interim bail till the High Court decides on regular bail. The Teesta Setalvad case is related to the 2002 Gujarat riots.
