BJP holds protest against Delhi govt’s liquor policy

Date:

New Delhi, July 23 (UNI) Delhi BJP workers on Saturday took to the streets of the national capital protesting against the Delhi government’s new excise policy. The protest led by Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta was among those detained by the police. The party workers also staged a protest outside the residence of Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia. BJP workers, who were protesting outside Sisodia’s residence, broke barricades put up by Delhi Police. Later, they were detained by the police, who put them on a bus, and took them away.

The workers in large numbers, carrying placards and party flags, raised slogans against the Delhi government and chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. The saffron party staged a demonstration against the AAP leader a day after Vinai Kumar Saxena recommended a CBI inquiry on a recent report by the Chief Secretary that established violations of the Delhi Excise Act 2009. He alleged that Sisodia was providing undue benefits to liquor licensees. Delhi government introduced an excise policy in November last year, since then the BJP has been demanding the rollback of the policy and alleged that the government is promoting liquor in the national capital.
