Bypoll to Tripura RS seat on September 22

New Delhi: On Wednesday, the Election Commission announced the bye-elections schedule for the lone Rajya Sabha (RS) seat in Tripura. The seat fell vacant following Chief Minister Manik Saha’s resignation after he was elected as MLA from the Town Bardowali constituency.

According to a communique issued by the poll panel, the by-poll will take place on September 22 from 9 am to 4 pm, and the counting of votes will take place the same day. Notification for nomination will be issued on September 5 and the last date for filing a nomination is September 12.

The scrutiny of the nomination will take place on September 13 and the last date of withdrawal of candidature is September 15, the poll panel said. The EC said it had directed Tripura Chief Secretary to depute a senior officer to ensure that the extant instructions regarding Covid-19 containment measures are complied with while making arrangements for conducting the bye-election.
