Ek akela kithono pe bhaari pad raha hai: Modi in RS

Date:

New Delhi: PM Modi on Thursday launched a fresh offensive against the Congress, this time in Rajya Sabha, amid heavy and constant sloganeering by the opposition parties demanding a JPC probe against the Adani group. Replying to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address in Rajya Sabha, PM Modi accused the Congress of slowing India’s progress by resorting to tokenism in the name of development and wasting 6 decades of the country. Congress never tried to solve India’s problems. The country is with us, as people rejected the Congress across the country and punished them too from time to time. Yet, he said some parties, who wish to remain tail parties of the Country, may have to face the same fate.
He said the world was looking at India with hope amid instability in some parts of the globe due to the once-in-a-century pandemic and conflicts. He took potshots at decimating Congress by saying that over 600 government schemes have been named after Gandhi and Nehru and yet those from the “generation” of Jawaharlal Nehru are afraid to use Nehru as their surname, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. He was referring to a news report, claiming that he didn’t verify it, while pointing out how Congress used to get agitated when any government scheme was not named after the first Prime Minister.
“If Nehru’s name was not mentioned in a program for any reason, the Congress used to get agitated. However, I wonder why those from Nehru’s generation is afraid to keep their surname. What are they ashamed of?” he asked while responding to the debate around the Motion of Thanks in Rajya Sabha.
PM Modi further said that India is not an estate of a particular family and that this country is made with the efforts of its common people and generational traditions. He also pointed out the allegations of harassment charges by states and said that he understands the meaning of federalism and that his government has emphasized “cooperative-competitive federalism”. “Not just this, one prime minister used ‘Article 356’ 50 times, hitting a half-century. That name is Mrs. Indira Gandhi,” he added. He also alleged that Congress as involved in tokenism when citizens were reeling under several issues. “Their priorities and intentions were different and therefore they never found a permanent solution to any problem,” he added.
Taking the entire Opposition amidst continuous heckling, he said: Dekho …eke akela logon pe bhari pad raha hai” (meaning how an individual like him with a greater degree of credibility among the people across the country had become a ‘threat’ to their very existence) In his 83-minute speech, Modi appears to have given the template that he wishes to set for the next year’s Lok Sabha elections as he reeled out his government’s last eight achievements which the Congress couldn’t in its 60 years of rule.
