New Delhi : Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has said that in the next two months, government will form a multi-state cooperative of seed culture and marketing and certification of organic products. Inaugurating a two-day National Conference of State Cooperation Ministers in New Delhi today, Mr. Shah said, the multi-state cooperative will directly benefit farmers involved in organic farming.
Emphasizing on the importance of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies, the Minister said, government has decided to establish 3 lakh PACS in the next 5 years. Mr. Shah said, defunct PACS should be liquidised as soon as possible, so that new PACS can be built.
Mr. Shah said that the focus of the co-operative policy of the government is – free registration, computerization, democratic elections, active membership, professionalism in governance and leadership, transparency, responsibility and accountability. He added that under the chairmanship of former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu, a committee has been constituted to draft National Cooperative Policy for holistic development in which all states are represented.
Laying special emphasis on the importance of the participation of youth and women in the cooperative sector, Mr. Shah said that cooperatives should make large contribution to the aim of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in making India a five trillion dollar economy. He added that government will be setting up a multi-state export house which will export khadi products, handicrafts and agriculture products to the world market.
