I-Day Cong: Ambika unfurls tricolor as Sonia recuperates from Covid

Date:

New Delhi August 15: Congress, along with the rest of the nation, celebrated the 76th Independence Day at its party headquarters here on Monday.

Senior Congress leader Ambika Soni unfurled the national flag, in presence of former party president Rahul Gandhi as Congress chief Sonia Gandhi could not attend the program being isolated after she tested positive for Covid-19.

Among others, senior party leaders were Ghulam Nabi Azad and MP Anand Sharma. In a message, Sonia Gandhi greeted the countrymen and said the nation has achieved much in the past 75 years due to which it has left an indelible mark on the international stage. Accusing the BJP-led government at the Centre of “trivializing” the sacrifices of the freedom fighters, she said her party will fight any attempt to falsify history.

“In the last 75 years India has left an indelible mark on the international stage in areas like science, education, health, and information technology through the hard work of its citizens,” the 75-year-old Congress chief said in her message.

She further said with its visionary leadership in the past 75 years, India established an independent, impartial and transparent election system, and strengthened democracy and constitutional institutions.
