Justice Uday Umesh Lalit to be the next CJI

New Delhi, August 12: President of India Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday appointed Justice Uday Umesh Lalit as the next Chief Justice of India (CJI) with effect from August 27, 2022. The incumbent CJI NV Ramana is slated to retire on August 26, 2022. The Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana today congratulated Justice Uday Umesh Lalit on being appointed as the 49th Chief Justice of India with effect from August 27, according to a Supreme Court press release. Justice Ramana conveyed his best wish- es to Justice Lalit for a glorious tenure as the Chief Justice of India.
