New Delhi, July 20 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was disrupted repeatedly on Wednesday as Opposition MPs pro- tested against the GST hike and price rise, forcing three adjournments. As soon as the House met, opposition members were on their feet with placards, raising slogans against the GST increase. The MPs trooped near the Speak- er’s podium raising slogans. Several MPs also carried packets of milk, curd, and other commodities on which GST has been hiked. Speaker Om Birla warned the MPs against showing placards and said it was against the rules.“I will allow you to raise the issue in the Zero Hour, please go back to your seats,” the Speaker said. As the Opposition refused to listen to repeated pleas of the Speaker, he adjourned the House till 2 pm. The scenes remained similar when the House met again at 2 p.m. The MPs continued their protest, forcing a second adjournment till 4 p.m.
With the protests continuing, the Chair adjourned the House for the day. Opposition parties led by Congress have been protesting against the GST hike and price rise in Parliament. On Monday morning, Opposition MPs staged a protest at the Gandhi statue in the complex earlier, carrying packets of curd, milk, and gas cylinders.
