Passenger flights suspended at 32 airports across north and west India until May 15

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced a temporary suspension of civil flight operations at 32 airports across northern and western India from May 9 to 15, 2025, citing operational reasons. The suspension, issued via Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other aviation authorities, will remain in effect until 0529 IST on May 15, 2025.

Airports affected by the temporary closure include major civil aviation hubs such as Amritsar, Srinagar, Leh, Jammu, Chandigarh, Jodhpur, and Bhuj, along with smaller regional airports such as Adhampur, Kullu Manali (Bhuntar), Kangra, Porbandar, and Mundra.

Adhampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Halwara, Hindon, Jaisalmer, Jammu, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra (Gaggal), Keshod, Kishangarh, Kullu Manali (Bhuntar), Leh, Ludhiana, Mundra, Naliya, Pathankot, Patiala, Porbandar, Rajkot (Hirasar), Sarsawa, Shimla, Srinagar, Thoise, Uttarlai.

In addition to airport closures, 25 segments of Air Traffic Service (ATS) routes within the Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Regions (FIRs) have also been temporarily suspended. As per NOTAM G0555/25, these segments will be unavailable from ground level to unlimited altitude until 2359 UTC on May 14, 2025 (0529 IST on May 15).

Airlines and operators have been instructed to plan alternate routings in accordance with updated air traffic advisories. The temporary measures are being closely coordinated with Air Traffic Control (ATC) units to maintain air safety and minimize disruption to domestic and international flight operations.

No further clarification was given regarding the operational reasons behind the temporary suspension, but authorities have assured that normalcy will be restored after the scheduled period.
