New Delhi, May 24: In a bid to transform Telangana’s transport infrastructure, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has proposed the development of a 370-kilometre-long Regional Ring Railway (RRR) encircling Hyderabad, running parallel to the upcoming Regional Ring Road (RRR) project.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday, the Chief Minister outlined this ambitious railway line as a critical infrastructure initiative that would stimulate economic activity, improve regional connectivity, and unlock new growth corridors across the state.

“This railway line, running alongside the Regional Ring Road, will significantly open up Telangana and lead to transformative development,” said the Chief Minister in his detailed proposal to the Centre.

The proposed Regional Ring Railway would encircle the Hyderabad metropolitan area and connect key zones targeted for industrial expansion, including IT hubs, pharmaceutical clusters, logistics parks, and emerging urban centres. By complementing the dual carriageway RRR expressway, the new railway line aims to ease freight movement, support passenger traffic, and integrate seamlessly with upcoming dry port and greenfield port highway corridors.

In addition to the railway project, Revanth Reddy also emphasized the need for expedited Cabinet approval of both the northern and southern segments of the Regional Ring Road. He cautioned that delaying the southern section could result in sharply increased land acquisition and construction costs in the future.

The state government has expressed readiness to share 50% of the land acquisition costs for both the road and railway segments to accelerate implementation.

If cleared by the Centre, the Regional Ring Railway is expected to emerge as a major infrastructure milestone that redefines Telangana’s logistics and mobility ecosystem while spurring job creation and industrial growth across the region.
