Millions of cricket buffs back home and across the country are disappointed at the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team in the crucial T-20 World Cup 2022 semis in Australia. Losing and winning may be part of any game. But, humiliating defeat is what annoys all and sundry. With a 1.3 billion population, India can as well produce more than half a dozen world class teams and this has been proved beyond doubt when the selectors chose to experiment with half a dozen teams with new leadership. Though many criticized it, one may regret it now for doing so. However, the problem has been, instead of strengthening the guy who led his team XI with suitable replacements, the Indian selector’s decision to bring them all under Rohit Sharma, appears to me as the unpardonable or inexcusable blunder.  One wishes to feel that way simply because the teams led by either Hardik Pandya or KL Rahul or Shikhar Dhavan were good enough. What the selectors could have done is that one of them could have made the T20 captain and another for ODIs, besides one for the Test team. Making Rohit Sharma as all formats captain is an unacceptable crime. When the nation has abundant talent, why burden one person with all the tasks and ensure that he fails? This has happened in the past with maybe one or two exceptions – Kapil Dev and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
