Chennai Super Kings have dealt a major blow to their fans ahead of IPL 2026, confirming that MS Dhoni will not feature in the opening matches of the season due to injury. The announcement has come just hours before the tournament begins, leaving supporters concerned about the team’s early campaign.

According to the franchise, Dhoni is currently recovering from a muscle injury and is under medical supervision. The management indicated that he will be out of action for at least two weeks, which means he is set to miss multiple key fixtures at the start of the season.

As per the schedule, Chennai Super Kings begin their campaign against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati. Dhoni is expected to miss matches scheduled up to April 11, including games against Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals. If his recovery progresses well, he may return for the match against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14 or the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18.

The development has sparked concern among fans, especially amid reports suggesting that this could be Dhoni’s final IPL season. His absence not only impacts the team’s leadership presence but also leaves a significant gap in the middle order where his finishing ability has been crucial over the years.

In Dhoni’s absence, the team management is exploring options to fill the void. Sanju Samson, who has recently joined the squad, is likely to take up wicketkeeping duties. However, replacing Dhoni’s experience and match finishing skills remains a challenge. Young batter Urvil Patel is also being considered as a potential option in the lineup.

With Ruturaj Gaikwad leading the side, the responsibility on the remaining players increases significantly. Samson’s role becomes even more important as the team looks to maintain balance and performance without its most experienced player.

Chennai Super Kings have a packed schedule ahead in IPL 2026. After the opening match on March 30, they will face Punjab Kings on April 3 in Chennai, followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 5 in Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals on April 11 in Chennai. The team will then play Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14 and Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18.

Further fixtures include matches against Mumbai Indians on April 23 in Mumbai and again on May 2 in Chennai. They will also face Gujarat Titans on April 26 in Ahmedabad and May 21 in Chennai, along with games against Delhi Capitals on May 5 in Delhi and Lucknow Super Giants on May 10 in Chennai and May 15 in Lucknow. Another clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad is scheduled for May 18 in Chennai.

As the season kicks off, all eyes will be on Dhoni’s recovery timeline and how CSK adapts in his absence during these crucial early matches.
