The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the Indian squad for the upcoming Afghanistan series beginning on June 6. The series will include a one match Test contest along with a three match One Day International schedule, bringing a mix of experienced names and fresh faces into the spotlight.

Young opener Shubman Gill has been given the responsibility of leading the side in both formats. The decision marks another major step in his leadership journey as the management places trust in the young batter for an important international assignment.

The squad also includes senior stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the One Day setup. However, reports indicate that the final inclusion of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya will depend on their fitness status before the series begins.

KL Rahul has been named vice captain for the Test team, while Shreyas Iyer will serve as deputy in the One Day squad. Meanwhile, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been given a break from the series.

The team selection also brought opportunities for several emerging players. Andhra cricketer Nitish Kumar Reddy earned a place in both squads along with Harsh Dubey and Gurnoor Brar. New names including Prince Yadav in the One Day squad and Manav Suthar in the Test side are expected to make their debut appearances.

The latest squad announcement reflects a balance between experienced players and promising talent as India continues preparations for future international challenges.
